Rafa Mir, who is playing for Valencia on loan from Sevilla this season, has spent his second night in custody awaiting trial after being arrested for two alleged sexual assaults.
On Sunday, a 21-year-old woman reported a double sexual assault by the 27-year-old forward in the house where he lives. In addition, another woman, aged 25, also reported a friend of Mir's, who was arrested on Tuesday, for assault.
According to the complaint of both young women, the events allegedly occurred on the night of Saturday to Sunday after the La Liga match between Valencia and Villarreal when the two complainants, Mir and a friend went to the Valencia player's house after meeting in a club.
After leaving the player's home in the early hours of Sunday morning, the women were treated at a hospital in Valencia and filed complaints with the Spanish police, who arrested Mir on Monday.
The player did not attend Valencia training on Tuesday morning as he was already in the police station, where he spent his second night.
Valencia issued a statement on Tuesday in which it said it was aware of the arrest, although it said it "did not know the details" of the case and placed itself at the disposal of the justice system.
