Real Madrid ask Mbappe to give his word on paper

It's not that the deal is closed by any means, but Real Madrid don't want it to happen again as it did in 2022. That is why, according to French newspaper 'L'Equipe', Real Madrid have asked the player to commit himself on paper if he finally accepts their offer to leave PSG.

We seemed to have said very little about Kylian Mbappe for being so close to the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but with January approaching the end of his contract, the buzz around him has begun. Will he play for Real Madrid, will he go elsewhere unexpectedly or will he renew? That is the question. But whatever happens, the strategy of the 'Merengue' board is different from two years ago.
'L'Equipe' published on Tuesday that Real Madrid will demand written guarantees from the striker in case he finally says "yes" to 'Los Blancos' offer. The club believe that the player's word has lost its validity after the player's 2022 decision, when he promised to land at the Santiago Bernabeu and finally decided to accept PSG's bestial financial offer.
Logically, Madrid's hope is that Mbappe makes his decision as soon as possible. A few days ago, 'AS' even set 15th January as the deadline that Real Madrid had set, but the French press is debating whether the player will make his decision when the competitions are over or, at the latest, before the Champions League play-offs. Whatever the case, that deadline cannot be set by Real Madrid.
But although they cannot force him to decide, they will demand that commitment from him if he wants to play at the Bernabeu. The club don't want to go into April, May or June without having on paper that on 1st July he will be a Real Madrid player. So, if he breaks the contract, the club will be able to demand compensation. What happened two years ago was no more than a green light given in talks to the board, but not a formality.
