Real Madrid have been making headlines around the world over the past 24 hours, as they announced four big departures consecutively. The Spanish giants confirmed the exits of Marco Asensio, Mariano, Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema.
Their French striker had the option to renew automatically until 2024 but utlimately decided not to take it, and rather head to Saudi Arabia to continue his career, where Al Ittihad wait for him with a multi-million dollar offer.
Thanks to these departures however, Madrid have saved themselves a very important pot of money in wages. Given they have big plans for the transfer window, this money will prove very useful. 'Marca' reports that the club will now have at their disposal an extra 76 million euros to spend.
Asensio contributed 9 million, the same amount as Mariano. Benzema was earning 28 million a year, while Hazard, even on the sidelines of the squad, was pulling in 30 million. The club plan to put this money to good use.
Some of the names that look closest to making a move to 'Los Blancos' are Kai Havertz (Chelsea), Harry Kane (Tottenham) and Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund). Madrid will need to reinforce their squad in the face of these four departures, and acting soon will be key.
Their spending pot could also very well increase even more. Dani Ceballos and Nacho Fernandez are both out of contract at the end of the season, and could also look to leave the club.
