The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation has handed down an eight-match suspension to Nuno Santos, Sporting's Portuguese winger, for breaking a protective glass at the National Stadium in Aveiro and injuring two fans, a father and his daughter.
The incident occurred on 3rd August during the Portuguese Super Cup final between Sporting and Porto, when Nuno Santos, who was not called up and was watching the match from a section of the stadium, smashed a protective glass pane, which ended up hitting a fan and her father. The worst victim was the young woman, who had to be taken to a hospital in Aveiro.
After the deliberation of the board members, the player, in addition to the 8-match ban, will have to pay a fine of 3,570 euros.
Nuno Santos, a regular Sporting starter, ruptured his cruciate ligament in his knee at the end of October and will not play any more matches this season.
