Robert Lewandowski is Barcelona's main star, but 'Relevo' reports that it could have ended very differently. When the footballer decided that he would leave Munich, this source explains that his inner circle contacted Real Madrid to offer the Pole's services. Madrid ruled out signing him and the attacker ended up joining the Catalans.

Barcelona spent 45 million euros on Robert Lewandowski last summer. The Catalan club did not stop until they persuaded Bayern to sell the Pole. Since he arrived at the Camp Nou, Lewandowski has scored 18 goals and provided four assists in 21 matches. That is proof that signing him was the right decision.
Lewandowski could have ended up elsewhere though, according to 'Relevo'. They say that in summer 2021, when the attacker started thinking about leaving Munich, his agent Pini Zahavi, started to look for options in the market.
Lewandowski's agent first called Real Madrid. The former Bayern man has never hidden that he would have liked to play for 'Los Blancos', but it was not to be.
After receiving that call from Pini Zahavi, 'Relevo' explains that Real Madrid quickly ruled out signing the Pole. Benzema was shining and the club said Lewandowski was not compatible with the Frenchman. Another problem was Lewandowski's large salary.
Finally, Madrid ruled out buying the Pole in summer 2022, the moment when the attacker was determined to leave and that was what happened. Barca went into the bidding war and put in a strong bid. Their interest was key in Lewandowski choosing the Catalan giants over Chelsea and PSG.
