Reus to sign with LA Galaxy, who will have to pay Charlotte FC

Marco Reus announced that he is leaving Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund, where he arrived in the summer of 2012. His journey will end on 30 June and he has reached an agreement to sign with the Los Angeles Galaxy on a one-and-a-half-year contract until December 2025, when next season's MLS season ends. There will then be an option for him to extend his stay in North America for a further 12 months depending on whether the parties are happy.
The information has come to light thanks to Cesar Luis Merlo, an expert journalist in the transfer market, who published it on his social networks. It also has a curious aspect and is that the franchise that will receive the German will do so thanks to the fact that, first, it has reached a consensus with Charlotte FC to take over the right of discovery that the latter had welcomed by including him in its list of possible additions.
In MLS, there is a ‘discovery list’ to which sporting directors can add a maximum of five players that they want to sign and who are not in the category. All they have to do is indicate this to the league organisers. Then, any other entity wishing to sign that professional will first have to deprioritise the other with a proposal.
The club that has included the player in this list will then have a maximum of five days to either agree with the second club to transfer his turn or to make an offer to the potential reinforcement. In this case, Los Angeles Galaxy will pay 350,000 dollars - around 321,000 euros - to Charlotte FC for the mere fact of putting Marco Reus on a list and, once this procedure is completed, they will sign him.
