Monterrey earned a 3-1 win over Atletico San Luis as Sergio Ramos made his debut in the Mexican's Clausura tournament last night. The former Real Madrid defender wore the captain's armband for his first match with 'Los Rayados' and almost went on target twice as he demonstrated his usual attacking mindset.
The Spaniard's header in the 13th minute was inches away from finding the back of the net but it was Sergio Berterame who broke the deadlock at the Estadio BBVA. The 26-year-old fired Monterrey ahead in the 23rd minute from Oliver Torres' assist, who then turned goalscorer as he doubled the hosts' lead ten minutes later.
Ramos had another opportunity to score when he stretched to meet with Berterames' shot-turned-pass in front of goal but he just about failed to make contact. Berterame added a third to put the game to bed in the 78th minute, a minute before the 38-year-old centre-back was substituted by Monterrey manager Martin Demichelis.
Ramos' debut ended after 79 minutes as he received cheers from his new supporters while making his way off the pitch. Vitor Ferreira grabbed a late goal for the visitors to reduce the deficit but it was not enough to save them from defeat. Monterrey sit 8th in the Liga MX Clausura standings, while San Luis find themselves down in 17th.
