The RFEF was in a hurry on Sunday. Once the injury to Jose Luis Gaya, who had to be substituted against Villarreal due to an injury, has been confirmed, Marc Cucurella has been called up by 'la Roja'.
The Chelsea full-back, who scored in his side's FA Cup win over Leicester, has been selected for the left-back role, which also features Alejandro Grimaldo.
Cucurella has already been called up to the Spain squad for the November 2020 international break. However, in the clashes against Switzerland and Germany in the Nations League, he did not make his debut.
The first, and so far only, game that Cucurella has played for Spain was on 8th June 2021, in the friendly against Lithuania that the U21s had to play due to a positive COVID-19 test in the senior national team.
