The coordinator of the joint bid of Spain, Portugal and Morocco for the 2030 World Cup, Antonio Laranjo, said Tuesday that Portugal will not host the final of the tournament, so it will be in Spain or Morocco.
"Portugal does not have that stadium (with capacity for at least 80,000 seats), it is not going to make investments to expand the capacity of the stadiums, which means that Portugal will not hold the World Cup final," Laranjo said at the ceremony to present the vision, logo and ambassadors of the bid, held at the Cidade do Fubol in Oeiras, on the outskirts of Lisbon.
Laranjo was asked about the possibility of the Santiago Bernabeu hosting the final, to which he replied that it is a "magnificent" stadium with capacity and one of the venues "that will certainly be indicated as possible" to host the final World Cup match or other matches.
"It is one of the stadiums that will certainly integrate our bid as a possible stadium to host a final, because it will certainly have the capacity for it," Laranjo remarked.
