Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United last November due to a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. The Portuguese said that he felt betrayed by the Red Devils and emphasised that he does not respect Erik ten Hag.
As a result, both parties reached a mutual agreement to part ways. Marcus Rashford took his place in the squad and the Englishman has had superb performances this season, scoring 30 goals and providing nine assists in 56 competitive matches.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer spoke about the England international's progress at the 'BBC' and said Ronaldo's departure helped Rashford to be successful this campaign.
"There's no doubt Erik ten Hag has helped him [Marcus Rashford], his finishing definitely has improved, he's fitter now, last season he had a lot injuries that didn't help him. But, and it's a big but, I think the biggest thing that's happened to him is Ronaldo leaving," he began.
"He feels as though he's the main man, he can be himself, he feels as though it doesn't matter if he misses a chance, he's still going to get another one and another game. You can see that in the 17 or 19 games since Ronaldo left, so that tells you the answer... He looks happier and a big reason for that is Ronaldo leaving."
