After a group stage to forget, Barcelona finished in third place in their group and they have dropped to the Europa League for the second consecutive season.
Without going any further, on Monday, the Europa League draw will be made in Nyon, Switzerland. Xavi Hernandez's team will find out their opponents in the play-off as they look to reach the last 16.
As they have dropped from the Champions League, they are in pot 2 together with Ajax (Netherlands), Bayer Leverkusen (Germany), Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), Salzburg (Austria), Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine), Sevilla (Spain) and Juventus (Italy).
Their opponents will come from pot 1 which will have top clubs like Man Utd (England), Roma (Italy), PSV (Netherlands), Monaco (France), Nantes (France), Rennes (France), Union Berlin (Germany) and Midtylland (Denmark).
Without doubt the two teams Barca will be looking to avoid are Man Utd and Roma. No Barcelona supporter will want to face Erik ten Hag's or Jose Mourinho's men, especially when more favourable opposition is available.
The winners of the ties will join Real Betis (Spain), Freiburg (Germany>), Saint-Gilloise (Belgium), Ferencvaros (Hungary), Real Sociedad (Spain), Feyenoord (Netherlands), Arsenal (England) and Fenerbahce (Turkey) in the last 16.
