Virgil van Dijk is back in England. The red card he received in the Nations League match against Hungary on Friday means the Liverpool player will not be able to play in the Netherlands' second match.
It was the centre-back's first sending-off in a Netherlands shirt, which did not sit well with the player, his coach or the Dutch media.
"It's a shame, it shouldn't have happened. But I'm especially angry about the first one. They say the captain is the only one who can talk to the referee. I approach him, not in a nasty way, but respectfully. If even the captain can't say anything, we are not doing well," Van Dijk told ESPN.
Following his red card, the Dutch national team have released Van Dijk, who will immediately return to Liverpool to prepare for the Reds' next match against Chelsea.
