Ruud van Nistelrooy, newly appointed as Leicester City's manager, has candidly discussed the emotional toll of his departure from Manchester United. The Dutch tactician, who recently served as interim manager at Old Trafford, signed a contract with Leicester until 2027, replacing Steve Cooper at the King Power Stadium.
Van Nistelrooy's brief stint as United's caretaker saw him achieve an impressive record of three wins and one draw in four matches. Reflecting on his exit, he admitted, "The moment I took over the interim job what I said was I'm here to help United and to stay to help United, and I meant it. So I was disappointed, very much so, and it hurt I had to leave".
Despite his initial disappointment, Van Nistelrooy expressed understanding for the decision to appoint Ruben Amorim as the new permanent manager. The former striker revealed he had a constructive conversation with Amorim, which helped him come to terms with the situation and explore new opportunities.
As he takes charge at Leicester, Van Nistelrooy inherits a squad that has faced recent challenges, including criticism over a controversial Christmas party in Copenhagen. Addressing these issues, the new manager emphasised the importance of mutual respect and good character within the team, stating, "It's the only way you can work".
Van Nistelrooy's appointment marks an exciting new chapter for both the manager and Leicester City, as they aim to revitalise their Premier League campaign.
