The Mbappe transfer saga looks set to come to an end this summer. The Frenchman sent a letter to PSG stating that he would not be renewing in 2024, the year his contract expires, meaning he would leave without leaving any money in the club's coffers.
This is something that has not gone down well with the French club, who do not intend to let their superstar leave for another team as a free agent, as president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said during the presentation of Luis Enrique as the club's new coach.
"Our position is very clear, I'll repeat once again. If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract. We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. This is impossible. This is a French club and as he said, he is not planning to leave for free. If somebody has changed his mind, it is not our fault," said the PSG chief.
"We are not letting one of the best players in the world leave for free. It is very clear," he concluded. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are waiting to see how negotiations between the Parc des Princes outfit and the Bondy-born player will pan out, with 'Los Blancos' having the money ready to tackle what could be the most expensive signing in their history.
