Brazilian Vanderson, Monaco full-back, said Tuesday that “the real winner” of the 2024 Ballon d'Or is Vinicius Junior, who missed out on the prestigious award after receiving fewer votes than Spanish midfielder Rodri.
“Without wanting to create controversy, for me the real winner of the Ballon d'Or is Vinicius. He had an excellent season and has been doing another excellent season,” said the defender at a press conference in the city of Belem, where the ‘Selecao’ is concentrated.
The Brazilian national team, led by the Madrid player, is preparing these days in the capital of the Amazonian state of Pará with a view to the next two matches against Venezuela and Uruguay in the qualifiers.
Vanderson believes, however, that the winger will win the Ballon d'Or “very soon” . “He's a guy who deserves it, who fights on and off the field, and very soon he will get it, I have no doubt about that,” he added.
The five-time world champions will face the 'Vinotinto' on Thursday in Maturin and next 19th will have a tough test against Uruguay in Salvador.
After a terrible start, Brazil is in 4th place in the qualifiers, with 16 points and a balance of 5 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats.
