Coach Simeone approaches next Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund with Alvaro Morata in attack alongside Antoine Griezmann, Rodrigo de Paul in the middle and Marcos Llorente on the right wing.
Goalkeeper Jan Oblak, centre-backs Axel Witsel, Jose Maria Gimenez and Reinildo Mandava, left-back Samuel Lino, and midfielders Koke Resurreccion and Pablo Barrios completed the probable starting line-up in Simeone's first test, which is still inconclusive, with almost a week to go before the clash at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium.
According to the first test, Morata would return to the starting eleven after being a substitute last Monday against Villarreal, when Simeone chose Memphis Depay for the line-up, the Spanish striker came on in the second half of the clash at the Estadio de la Ceramica and is now aiming for the start against Borussia Dortmund alongside Griezmann.
The other change would be the return of Rodrigo de Paul to midfield after serving a five yellow card suspension against Villarreal. The Argentina World Cup winner would return to the inside right, with Koke Resurreccion in central midfield and Pablo Barrios on the left.
Apart from Hermoso, Thomas Lemar, who has been sidelined for the last 40 games due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon suffered on 16 September, did not train with the group in a session that included a visit from former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who spoke with Diego Simeone.
