Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez urged his players to "give more for not having done their homework" this season in the final six games of La Liga, in which his side are aiming to secure second place.
"We have to give more for not having done our homework, we have to reverse this situation by finishing the season well. The minimum objective of getting into the Champions League is very close after Athletic's defeat. We have the objective of finishing second, which would allow us to play in the next Spanish Super Cup," he told reporters.
The Catalan coach answered a single question about his next opponent: "Pipo Baraja is doing an extraordinary job on the Valencia bench," he said.
Xavi referred directly to some of the names in the squad. He would like Sergi Roberto to renew his contract with the club and considers Frenkie de Jong to be a "fundamental player", while he was more enigmatic about the continuity of Vitor Roque.
"We will decide at the end of the season what is best for each player. He has only recently arrived from Brazil and it is not easy to make a difference. He needs time, adaptation, more minutes and confidence. He is a player who can play for Barca for a long time," he said of the Brazilian forward.
