Timo Werner's first attempt to establish himself in the Premier League with Chelsea did not go well, but his second is progressing well. After just half a season at Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur, where he has been on loan, Red Bull Leipzig have advanced a new loan to Great Britain on the same terms. Fabrizio Romano exclusively reported this Tuesday afternoon.
The deal will be identical to the previous one and will last for the same length of time. This is interesting news because it will allow fans to see what the German striker is capable of over the coming season. After the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and the signing of the Australian, few expected the project to be set up as a clear opposition to the noblest teams in the English League.
In the final stretch of the season, Werner suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Arsenal at the end of April. He only managed half an hour on the pitch before his boss had to replace him after using him as a starter in four consecutive matches. Before that, he had been fighting for such an important role with good performances coming off the bench such as one against Aston Villa.
It is understandable that Red Bull Leipzig would welcome another move for Werner, having sold him to Chelsea for 53 million euros in the summer of 2020 and bought him back in the summer of 2022 for 20 million euros. The club made a profit of more than 30 million euros and will now save an amount of his salary that will be paid by Spurs.
