Xavi Hernandez has broken with Barca, but he had a contract until 2025, so an agreement had to be reached on the terms of his departure. Helena Condis of ‘COPE’, and ‘Mundo Deportivo’ have given the results of the talks. The coach waives the 11 million euros of his salary for next season, but not that of his staff or the 2.5 million euros he paid out of his own pocket to leave Al Sadd early.
The amounts owed to their teammates are trivial for the club, but those other €11m are an immediate relief in the wage budget. It is quite likely that Laporta's top brass have used them to make them part of the wage bill for the signing of Hansi Flick, who, if nothing goes wrong, will be signed for two seasons.
Ricard Torquemada, in ‘El Tercer Temps’ on ‘LaTdT’, argues that there were disagreements in the sporting planning for the 24-25 season with Xavi. One of them was the figure of Robert Lewandowski, to whom the coach did not see a tactical or psychological fit.
On the first level, the Pole is not suited to the high pressing rhythms that Xavi had in mind for his schemes as soon as he arrived from Qatar. On the second, he understands that his treatment of young players is not the best way to help them grow. A shout from the former Bayern player at Yamal has already gained a lot of notoriety in the media, although both later declared that it was just another anecdotal chapter in the season.
