Arsenal, despite having the best defensive record in the Premier League last season, are looking to strengthen their defence for next season.
After a summer of negotiations with Euro 2024 in between, the Gunners' signing of Riccardo Calafiori has been put on hold for the time being.
Basel, who have a sell-on fee, are having a stand-off with Bologna. Arteta's side have been pushing for weeks for Calafiori to join the club but negotiations are ‘frozen’ and Bologna are threatening to cancel the deal.
‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ claims the centre-back will begin pre-season training with the Serie A side as his negotiations with Arsenal are shelved while they seek a deal with Basel, with Calafiori set to cost €50m.
