The World Cup is in full swing and Qatar is hogging all the headlines. Former Germany player Matthaus is keeping a close eye on his national team, who play Spain on Sunday.
Apart from the match in question, the former footballer surprised people with a dig at Barca in an interview with 'Marca'. He was asked about Jude Bellingham's future and he responded in surprising fashion: "He will soon leave Dortmund for Real Madrid or a Premier League team, which is where there is money."
Then he hit out at Barcelona. "If there's no money, the only ones who can sign players are Barca, who don't have an euro, but sign Lewandowski," he said while laughing.
Former Bayern player Matthaus criticised what the Pole did before moving to the Camp Nou. "I hope the theatre ends, he's doing Bayern harm," he said on one occasion. And, when his move was completed: "He now has what he wants, he'll earn double."
On the match between Germany and Spain, he said that it will be "one of the great matches of the tournament." "They are the two favourites in this group, but you must not forget about Japan. Germany really respect Spain because they have a great team," he concluded.
