Nico Williams is one of the men of the moment in Spanish football. The Athletic winger is having a truly breakthrough season, with some jaw-dropping performances in decisive matches and has attracted the interest of Europe's biggest clubs in securing his services.
In fact, and according to 'The Telegraph', Chelsea have already moved to secure his transfer. He is well-liked by coach Mauricio Pochettino and is one of those players with pace and goalscoring ability that are in short supply on the market.
Nico Williams has just renewed with Athletic until 2027 and has increased his buyout clause to 50 million euros. However, the Blues are willing to pay that amount to be able to count on the 21-year-old next campaign.
Athletic is the club of his life for the younger Williams. In fact, the presence of his brother next to him is one of the ties that makes the player decide to continue at a club that, for the moment, has not reached the elite of football.
As well as getting to play in the Champions League with his team, something that could happen this year, as they are fifth, just five points behind fourth place.
Nico Williams could make the leap to a big European team and thus continue to enhance his professional career as a footballer. Athletic will undoubtedly have to overcome the departure of the younger Williams, who has been a key player so far this season.
