What will become of Memphis Depay? That is one of the questions which remains unanswered at the Camp Nou.
Ex-footballer Ruud Gullit spoke to 'Voetbal' about the attacker's situation and believes that if he stays at Barca, he will struggle for opportunity. Gullit believes that Depay needs to up his game.
"Is Memphis a world class player? He can be. At Lyon he showed that he can be, but we must also remember that at United he failed and that now this is happening to him at Barca," he said.
Gullit thinks the footballer is not playing to his full potential and that he must put that right if he is to stay at the club. " I think he thinks he’s a world class player myself, but he has to show that on the pitch."
The former PSV, AC Milan and Chelsea footballer urged Depay to reinvent himself if he wants to keep playing under Xavi: "Memphis has a problem because in front of him, there is a world class player like Lewandowski. To play in that team, you have to reinvent yourself in another attacking position because, otherwise, it will be very difficult."
Xavi, Depay's coach, recently said that he does not want the player to leave, but the former Lyon man keeps on being linked with other clubs. Man Utd are reportedly the latest ones interested. Despite the fact Depay had a poor time in Manchester between 2015 and 2017, his old club want him to take over from CR7.
