Pedri Gonzalez said after scoring two of the five goals in Spain's win over Northern Ireland at the Son Moix stadium that he was "looking forward" to opening his goalscoring account with his national team.
"I'm happy, I really wanted to make my debut here, especially after the injuries I've had this year. I've worked very hard to get here in the best possible condition," Pedri told reporters. The Spanish midfielder's last brace came last May in La Liga with FC Barcelona against Rayo Vallecano.
"It has been seen that the injury is behind me. Luis (De La Fuente) has given me a lot of encouragement and confidence so that I could come back now recovered. I have a good relationship with him since the Olympic Games with the U21 team," he added.
Asked if Pedri is back, he replied with a smile: "I have always tried to be there, although injuries sometimes prevent you from doing so.
"I'm happy for my goals and for the fact that I've broken a streak of scoring goals from outside the box, coming from behind. When teams close down a lot, like Northern Ireland tonight, it's important to try it from everywhere," Pedri concluded.
