Pressure is piling for Erik ten Hag, as successive disappointing results are putting the Dutch's position as Man United head coach at risk. A tragic 3-0 loss against Tottenham at Old Trafford was followed by an underwhelming 3-3 draw at Porto in the Europa League, which led to many fans calling for a change.
United travel to face Unai Emery’s in-form Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday before players head to their respective national teams. Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford, and other key decision-makers at the club will reportedly meet during the international break to discuss Ten Hag's future at United, with many expecting the Dutch manager to be relieved of his duties.
Nonetheless, Man United defender Matthijs de Ligt does not seem to share the same idea, as he spoke ahead of the Villa clash. "To be fair, like, it’s quite funny because in my career, I never had a trainer for longer than one and a half seasons,” he told Sky Sports. “So this is something that, yeah, I hope I can have that now. A trainer or a manager who stays longer with me as a player so you can grow more together also.”
The 25-year-old has played for Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern before arriving at Old Trafford, stating that Ten Hag's presence at United was crucial in his decision to join the club.
