La Liga announced on Sunday that it will immediately report the insults and racist gestures received by Barcelona players in 'El Clasico’ against Real Madrid, played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, to the National Police and the hate crimes and discrimination unit of the Attorney General's Office.
In a statement, La Liga said that ‘intolerable racist behaviour’ was observed during the match and ‘strongly condemned these events’. "La Liga remains firm in its commitment to eradicate any kind of racist behaviour and hatred inside and outside stadiums. There is no place in sport for this scourge," it added.
Real Madrid confirmed on Sunday that they "have opened an investigation" to "locate and identify" a few fans who uttered racist insults after Lamine Yamal's goal in order to "adopt the relevant disciplinary and judicial measures".
The club ‘roundly condemns any type of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium’.
At the end of the match, in which Barcelona won 4-0, videos of the celebration of Lamine Yamal's goal with Alejandro Balde went viral on social media, with insults such as "f*cking black" being heard.
