Liverpool started the game in the best possible way by scoring a goal in the first few minutes of the game. Darwin Nunez scored the first goal of the game in the 6th minute after Gakpo found him on the edge of the box and his shot beat Trafford. Both teams then had chances to score although the Reds dominated possession for most of the game. Liverpool had two goals disallowed, one in the 29th minute of the first half which was disallowed for offside by Gakpo, and another in the second half scored by Elliot which was disallowed because Salah was in front of the Burnley goalkeeper and obstructing his vision. In the closing minutes Diogo Jota extended Klopp's lead with a goal after Luis Diaz gave him a pass inside the box to put the ball into the net.
