Uruguay international Luis Suarez may need a prosthesis because of osteoarthritis in his right knee, said the president of Brazilian club Gremio, Alberto Guerra.
At an event with fans of the Brazilian team in the city of Porto Alegre, Guerra declared that the 36-year-old striker's situation is "serious" and that the "possibility" of implanting a "prosthesis" in the knee is being considered.
"It's a lot of injections, a lot of medication and he's reaching a limit. When you're at the limit, you don't know," said Guerra, but without anticipating the Porto Alegre club's star striker's retirement.
According to the website 'GZH', the 36-year-old striker will hold a meeting with Gremio's board in the coming days to reach an agreement and leave the team. Club sources told 'EFE' that they will comment "shortly" on the situation of the striker, without confirming or denying the information.
Suarez joined Gremio at the start of this year and has been a standout performer with 14 goals and eight assists in 26 appearances. The former Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid player signed a contract that ties him to Gremio until December 2024.
