Dani Carvajal underwent ‘successful’ surgery on Friday, according to Real Madrid, on the serious right knee injury he suffered last Saturday against Villarreal, which will keep him out of action until next season.
"Our player Dani Carvajal has undergone successful surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and posterior-external instability in his right knee, under the supervision of Real Madrid's Medical Services," the club said on its website.
Carvajal suffered the serious injury last Saturday and, following the timetable, underwent surgery to begin his recovery in the coming days, which could take between eight and ten months.
Following the injury, Real Madrid announced the renewal of the right-back and second club captain for another season, until 30 June 2026.
Carvajal underwent surgery hours after visiting his Spain team-mates in Las Rozas, who encouraged him in his recovery, as did Rodri Hernandez, who also suffered a cruciate ligament injury and underwent surgery on 27 September.
Two key absentees for Spain, in addition to Robin Le Normand after suffering a head injury with subdural haematoma in the match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid on 29 September, and Nico Williams, out with a muscle injury, ahead of the matches against Denmark and Serbia in the Nations League.
