Luke Shaw is yet to make an appearance for Manchester United this season. His start to the 2024/2025 campaign has been delayed due to a muscle injury picked up in pre-season, with his last game dating back to July 14th during the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.
The defender has been struggling to recover from the injury, suffering multiple set-backs since he first sustained the it. Before his sacking on Monday, Erik ten Hag confirmed that Shaw had suffered another set-back, thus increasing his period on the sidelines, and further delaying his start to the season.
“The process is not going as we expected, that's the truth,” Ten Hag said after the defeat to West Ham. "The setback, if you want to call it like this, we want also to do it very careful. We know his past, we have to do this right, because we want him to be available, because he will have a big impact on our performances and also on our levels. We can't have him playing for some games and then drop out again. So, we will do it very carefully.”
With United's dismissal of Ten Hag, Shaw will now hope to recover as soon as possible and impress the new head coach. The Red Devils have confirmed that assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the club on an interim basis, though Sporting boss Amorim has been tipped for the permanent manager position. Talks are reportedly ongoing between United and the Portuguese side, as Amorim is said to be fully on board with the move to Old Trafford.
