Deportivo Alaves and Real Sociedad announced on Sunday an agreement for the transfer of Javi Lopez, who joins the San Sebastian outfit on a contract until 2030. The Canary Islander, whose contract expires in 2025 and who had a renewal offer from the team from Vitoria, decided to accept the proposal of the ‘Txuri-urdin’ team, who paid a compensation as a transfer to Alaves.
The Spanish full-back, who arrived in Vitoria at the age of 15 from Tenerife, thus closes a successful period in which he has gone through the youth ranks to take up the position at left-back for Alaves.
He has also been a regular in the youth ranks of the Spanish national team, although he will not be at the Olympic Games in Paris. In the 2019-20 season he got his big chance and made his debut in La Liga at the age of 18, also as a starter against Celta Vigo, playing all 90 minutes in Balaidos.
He played a key role in Deportivo Alaves' last promotion to La Liga, with 32 games played in the regular league and play-offs, and three Copa del Rey matches, in which he provided three assists and forced the penalty that Asier Villalibre later scored.
This past season, Javi Lopez has been a permanent fixture in Luis Garcia Plaza's squad, making 32 appearances in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey.
Alaves thanked the player in a press release in which they highlighted "his professionalism, humility and closeness" to all those who have shared his day-to-day life for so many years, and wished him "the best of luck in the future".
