Police on Thursday raided Spain's football refereeing headquarters as part of a probe into claims Barcelona paid for favourable decisions in a fresh blow for Spain's scandal-hit football association.
The search was ordered by the judge investigating the so-called Negreira case involving payments allegedly made to a firm owned by a former top refereeing official Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.
Police began the search early on Thursday at the offices of the CTA referees' technical committee located at the RFEF football federation headquarters on the outskirts of Madrid.
As a result, manager Xavi Hernandez was asked at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Sevilla meeting about the latest reports and said that they had "never felt favoured by the referees".
"I have never felt that we have been favoured by the referees. I have little time and I dedicate myself to other things, not to reflecting on these issues," he told reporters.
