Real Madrid will play the final of the Intercontinental Cup 2024 at Lusail Stadium, which hosted the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the tournament's organising committee revealed on Tuesday. Tickets will go on sale from 21 November for the three matches to be played in Doha from 11-17 December.
Organisers announced that the 974 Stadium will host the match between the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL champions and the semi-final, which will pit the winner of the first match against Al Ahly of Egypt, who qualified for this round after defeating Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates in the second round.
Stadium 974 was among those hosting the 2022 World Cup and was due to be dismantled after the tournament as the first demountable stadium to be built with sustainable materials, but it remains standing. The final, in which Real Madrid are guaranteed a place, is scheduled to be played at Lusail Stadium, which hosted the 2022 World Cup final.
The tournament organising committee's executive director of commercial affairs, marketing and events, Hassan Al Kuwari, expressed his happiness that Qatar is hosting another major tournament and that the final will take place at the same time as the second anniversary of the 2022 World Cup final.
