Deportivo Riestra was on everyone's lips when they made the debut of a streamer - Ivan Buhajeruk 'Spreen'- in the Argentine Professional League. A promotional action that turned into its own nightmare. After that, the club issued the following statement to face up to what happened.
“Yesterday, we had the opportunity to have the participation of Ivan Buhajeruk, one of the most important 'influencers' in Latin America, in the match against Velez. Unfortunately, this marketing action generated a lot of negative opinions.
We would like to offer our sincere apologies to those who felt offended. At no time was it our intention to disrespect Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield or Argentine football in general. This situation was clarified during the week prior to the match by our technical director, who communicated with his Velez counterpart to tell him about the initiative. The same thing happened between the captains of both teams.
Our objective was (and is) to attract new audiences to football, generating connections between different worlds and platforms to continue promoting the product and our club, living a historic moment in the first tier. As mentioned by the Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, in Europe the young audience is decreasing in this activity. Through this action, Deportivo Riestra seeks with Spreen to attract new generations that today are projected on social networks through 'influencers'.
We deeply value the work of all the components of this beautiful activity that is soccer and we reaffirm our commitment to it, seeking to contribute positively to the evolution and growth of the sport we love in all its areas”.
